The "Romantikstrasse" from Salzburg to Vienna Salzburg – Bad Ischl – Hallstatt – Grein – through the World Heritage region Wachau - Emmersdorf – Krems – Vienna With daily luggage transfer Requirements and general information: The cycle tours don't have any technical difficulties; there are only a few ascents! Some physical fitness and stamina are necessary though as well as comfortable sports cloths, rucksack, rain- and sun protection, jumper, ... The routes can easily be rode on with trekking bikes – mostly they are asphalted cycle paths, a few stretches are gravel and forest paths. It is possible to hire a trekking bike (additional charge). Should you want to spend a day more relaxingly you can cover the stretch by public transport (bus, train or boat) – time tables included in the information material received on arrival. ROUTING: 1st day: Arrival in Salzburg at your accommodation. You receive your travel documents and the rented bikes. Overnight stay in Salzburg in ***hotel. 2nd day: Salzburg – Mondsee Distance: approx. 35 km Start in Salzburg; along of the river Salzach you drive outside of the city. In Salzburg Nord (Itzling) the Salzkammergut cycle route leads you till Eugendorf, to Thalgau and further to Mondsee. Overnight stay in hotel in the region Mondsee. 3rd day: Mondsee – Bad Ischl Distance: approx. 39 km Today you go by bike on the shore along the Mondsee to Scharfling and after the Scharflingpass you reach the wonderfull Lake Wolfgangsee. Along the shore of Wolfgangsee till Strobl and further to the of Bad Ischl. Overnight stay in hotel in Bad Ischl 4th day: Bad Ischl - Hallstatt - Bad Ischl Distance: approx. 47 km From Bad Ischl you go via Bad Goisern to Hallstatt along the east shore of Lake Hallstättersee. Now you have two possibilities: Go by bike to Hallstatt around the lake (5 km) or you take the ferry boat on the other side of the lake directly to the market place of Hallstatt. Cycle back from Hallstatt to Bad Ischl. Overnight stay in hotel in Bad Ischl. 5th day: Bad Ischl - Grein by train Handover of the bikes for this day at the office our partners in Bad Ischl.Trip with the train to Grein. Overnight stay in hotel in Bad Ischl. 6th day: Grein - Emmersdorf Distance: approx. 62 km Start your tour in Grein through the romantic Strundengau in the narrow Danube valley. You pass the roman village Ybbs. Go further to Melk – it is also called the „Gate to Wachau". We recommend visiting the abbey of Melk. Afterwards drive to Emmersdorf. Emmersdorf is on the opposite site of the Danube of Melk. Overnight stay in hotel in Emmersdorf. 7th day: Emmersdorf - Krems Distance: approx. 35 km Soft vineyards line your way to Krems. You can choose on which site from the Danube you drive – but most of the cycler´s prefer the left side with its picturesque villages Spitz, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein. Overnight stay in hotel in Krems. 8th day: Krems - Tulln Distance: approx. 52 km Train to Vienna The route is always a bit downhill. You can enjoy the views and landscape on your way to Tulln. From Tulln you go by train to Vienna. The luggage will be transferred from Krems to Vienna to your hotel. Overnight stay in hotel in Vienna. 9th day: You can give back the bikes in the hotel in Vienna. Departure or individual extra days.
